NZSA: IFRS 17 for General Insurers
Tuesday, September 25, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Insurers are all beginning to think about what IFRS 17 – Insurance Contracts will mean for them. Actuaries will continue to play an important role in the insurance accounting process of insurers and a recent KPMG survey found that “ironically, we are finding the organisations that are furthest along with their projects are feeling the greatest time pressure”.
If you work in general insurance, the Actuaries Institute are hosting an Insights session next Tuesday afternoon that may be of interest. It will be presented by members of the AASB 17 taskforce in Australia and will discuss the key issues for implementation from a general insurance perspective. The session is open to all NZSA members, including non-Australian members, and note that the AASB 17 standard is effectively the same as NZ IFRS 17. We have arranged for the webinar to shown at the locations below for those interested in viewing it, please register via the link below.
If you work in life insurance, the IFRS 17 working group are currently planning a conference session that will cover the main technical issues for NZ life insurers. This will provide a detailed discussion on the most challenging aspects of the standard and give you an opportunity to ask questions. We hope to see you there.
For those interested in the latest IFRS 17 developments, the latest round of papers for the global Transition Resource Group (TRG) have been published on the website below. Further guidance from the TRG on the issues raised in these papers are expected to be available in early October.
