NZSA | Sessional Meeting Presentation. Webinar 1: Climate Scorpion – the sting is in the tail
October 2 at 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
We are delighted to announce a two part webinar series on climate change focussing on how actuaries can contribute. We’re fortunate to have the lead author of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ recent series of reports on climate change, Sandy Trust, join us for this insightful webinar series.
‘Climate Scorpion – the sting is in the tail’ is the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ third report in collaboration with climate scientists. It shows that climate risks are complex, interconnected, and could threaten the basis of our society and economy.
The report introduces the concept of Planetary Solvency to support long-term policy decisions. Just as financial solvency assessments assess the ability of a financial entity to pay claims, Planetary Solvency would combine nature, climate, and societal risk assessments to assess risks to the ecosystem services that underpin our society, both now and in the future.
