Expression of Interest: Student Member Co-option to Council

At the 2025 AGM, members approved a constitutional amendment enabling Council to co-opt a NZSA Student Member to add a dedicated student voice at the Council table. I am very excited to share that we are now seeking Expressions of Interest for this role.

Student engagement and growth is a strategic priority for the New Zealand Society of Actuaries. A strong student pipeline is essential to the long-term sustainability of the profession. This role provides exposure to governance and ensures that student and younger members’ perspectives are considered in Council discussions and decisions, alongside the important work of the Student Committee.

Council invites Expressions of Interest exclusively from current NZSA Student Members to join Council for a one-year term. This co-opted role is not open to Associate Members, who are otherwise eligible to sit on Council.

If a NZSA Student Member — whether yourself or someone in your team — is keen to help shape the future of the profession, we would love to hear from them.

The process to co-opt an Independent Member to Council will follow separately.

How to Apply

NZSA Student Members wishing to be considered should submit:

  • A brief statement (3–4 paragraphs) outlining Your interest in serving on Council and the perspective you would bring
  • A current CV

Please send submissions or any questions to NZSA Chief Executive Helen.Mexted@actuaries.org.nz by 6 March 2026.

More information is in the Council and Committees Policy.
